What doctors can do about the climate health emergency

Climate change is already having profound impacts on human health, and doctors are increasingly seeing the effects of devastating bushfires, drought, deadly air pollution and more in their clinics and hospitals.

Scientists estimate that we have a little over a decade to avoid a looming public health emergency.

As doctors we have a duty of care to protect health.

We have spoken out against health hazards, such as smoking. Now we must stand together to demand that our leaders address the climate crisis - the greatest threat in human history.

The time to act is now.

Sign the petition calling on the Federal Government to recognise climate change as a public health emergency and demand urgent action in accordance with the science:

As a doctor, I understand climate change to be an existential threat to human health.

I call on the government to  declare a climate emergency and introduce legislation in accordance with the science.

A reduction in the causes of anthropogenic climate change and adaptation measures to deal with climate change impacts are vital to protect public health.
